Serving the Children of the World

Who We Are

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.

We have been serving Cookeville and Putnam County since our club was chartered in December 1958 through the sponsorship of our sister clubs in Lebanon and Mount Juliet, Tennessee.

We Serve Children.

  • We have been a financial partner of the Cookeville Children's Museum since 2011.
  • We have awarded first-year college scholarships to seniors from Cookeville, Monterey and Upperman High Schools since 1967.
  • We set up and guide student leadership organizations such as the Cookeville High School Kay Club and the Avery Trace Middle School Builders Club.
  • We honor students' achievements through the Bring Up Grades (B.U.G.) Programs at Cane Creek and Jere Whitson Elementary Schools.
  • We sponsor cars at the annual Cookeville Soap Box Derby.
  • We sponsor the annual bike drive of Toys for Tots in Cookeville.
  • We help with the Cookeville Regional Charitable Foundation's Angel Garden.
  • We sponsor the Youth Conservationist Award of the Putnam County Soil Conservation District
  • In the past, we have worked with the Cookeville Police Department in staffing child car safety seat checkpoints, sponsored the Tennessee High School Academic Team Tournament, held the World's Largest Baby Shower, and conducted scores of other youth-oriented projects.

We Serve the Community.

  • We volunteer at various community events like the TSSAA High School Football State Championships, the Cookeville Christmas Parade and highway clean-up campaigns, to name a few.
  • We help other service organizations such as Helping Hands and the Cookeville Rescue Mission.
  • We promote community well-being through Ministers Appreciation Days. We even held a Health Fair in 1982.

We Change the World.

  • We have worked with 600,000 Kiwanians in 80 countries to battle iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), the leading preventable cause of mental retardation.
  • We are currently working to eliminate maternal/neonatal tetanus and save 129 million mothers and their future babies.

We Raise Funds to Fulfill Our Mission.

  • We have been conducting an auction since 1966 to raise funds for our local projects. It is staged on-line in partnership with Tays Auctions.
  • We organize the annual Pins for Kids Bowling Tournament at Cookeville's Bowling World.
  • We sponsored a circus, and held boat shows, pancake breakfasts and other fund-raisers in the past.
  • We also accept donations from friends of Kiwanis and the general public.
